Computers (Part Two)
In the second half of Swedin and Ferro's Computes: The Life Story of Technology, the pace at which computing technology develops matches the speed of the "advanced" world, it's fast. Gone are the days of punch-card-reading computers. It's all about cutting-edge technology from now on.Swedin and Ferro mostly highlights the personal computers and the internet for the second half of the Computers book. They also introduce the readers to some tech companies that are responsible for laying the down the foundation of current technologies. For example, the authors highlight companies like Microsoft and Apple. These companies demonstrate how competitiveness is a driving force in the computing industry. Without this aggressive drive for each company to be on top, we would not have the technology we have today.
Let's amuse ourselves and imagine a world without personal computers and access to the internet. In a world with no personal computer and internet access, how would we do our work and socialize with each other? If we consider the results of our first blog concerning our tech usage, how much time would we devote to some other activity/activities?
